 Forklift Attachments Rockford - Rockford is a city within the northern portion of Illinois State. The Rock River runs through this mid-sized city of 152,871 residents. The city of Rockford serves as the county seat of Winnebago County. Rockford is the most populated within the state of Illinois outside of the Chicago Metropolitan Area.
Rockford is usually known as "The Forest City" by its residents. In 1834, Rockford was founded by Germanicus Kent who called it Midway, as it was roughly in the middle between Chicago and his hometown of Galena. During 1852 Rockford officially became a city with a growing population due to the Galena & Chicago Union Railroad, which ran through it. By the early part of the twentieth century, Rockford had become a major manufacturing and industrial center. Some nationally recognized manufacturers established themselves here. Faced with a decline following the Second World War ended, the economy has in recent years recovered to concentrate on becoming an entertainment, commercial and cultural center.
The area surrounding the city of Rockford has many manufacturing enterprises making products like machine tools and other hardware for the aerospace industry. The city also boasts several chemical manufacturing companies. High-tech businesses have become increasingly attracted to the city in the last few decades. The city of Rockford has a huge range of cultural attractions. The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is an essential venue for local and world-renowned artists. The New American Theater mounts professional theatrical productions on a yearly basis. The Burpee Museum of Natural History exhibits collections of fossils, animals, rocks and minerals. The Discovery Center Museum has a planetarium and interesting exhibits. The Erlander Home Museum provides glimpses into the area's Swedish settlers. The Ethnic Heritage Museum relates the history of the early Italians, Irish, African-Americans, Polish, Hispanics and Lithuanians. Beyond these urban draws, the natural surroundings of Rockford provide various outdoor recreational activities.
