 Forklift Attachments Mesquite - Mesquite City, Texas is situated about 12 miles away from Dallas City. The city of Mesquite is a mid-sized city in north central Texas. The city gets its name from the Mesquite Creek which flows through the city. It is located near the intersection of Interstate Highways I-30 and I-635 on U.S. Route 80. Balch Springs lies towards the south and Garland City is situated to the north. The city of Mesquite is known as the "Rodeo Capital of Texas" since it hosts the Mesquite Championship Rodeo yearly.
The Texas and Pacific Railway were established during 1873. In the year 1887, the city of Mesquite was incorporated and bit by bit started to expand with cotton being its main economic driver. Within a twenty year span, from the years 1950 to 1970, the population quickly increased from less than 20,000 people to 50,000 inhabitants. The cities expansion was due mainly in part to the growth of the neighboring city of Dallas. In order to help preserve the city's culture and heritage, the city of Mesquite established the Mesquite Historical Commission in the 1980's. The name has since been changed to the Historic Mesquite, Inc., and is now working on numerous projects like for example a historical park.
The town of Mesquite was founded on May 22, 1873, along the Texas & Pacific rail lines just outside of Dallas City, by a Texas & Pacific Railway engineer. The population of the city of Mesquite began to grow more rapidly after the train, which ran from Dallas to Shreveport, started to stop within the little town. On December 3, 1887, the city was incorporated officially.
Mesquite's economy has been mostly based on farming and agriculture. Hay, cotton, corn, and sugar were the main products being grown. The railway offered a great way to ship these raw goods. The cities economy remained focused on agriculture until shortly after the second World War. Mesquite became successful, and its population rose from 1,696 during the year 1950 to about 55,131 in 1970.
There are some unique attractions situated in Mesquite City. The most highly anticipated event of the year is the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, which has happened each year ever since 1958 and is televised throughout the nation. Another of Mesquites premiere attractions is the Mesquite Arts Center which is home to more than 16 arts organizations like for instance the Mesquite Community Theatre, the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, the Mesquite Community Band, and a local art gallery. A family-friendly facility, the Rodeo City Music Hall, offers all sorts of entertainment intended for different ages. Between the months of March and November the Devil's Bowl Speedway hosts a variety of action-packed competitions which racing enthusiasts flock to attend. Some of the historic places within Mesquite City are the Florence Ranch Homestead, that dates back to the late 1800's, and the Texas Queen. The Texas Queen is actually a double deck paddle wheeler that serves as a popular site for special events.
There are several other population attractions located nearby within the cities of Dallas and Forth Worth, consisting of Fair Park, the Dallas Arboretum Botanical Garden, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Zoo, Dallas World Aquarium and Rainforest, Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic Districts, Six Flags Over Texas, The Sixth Floor Museum, and the West End Marketplace.
There are various nearby major sports teams, with the Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers playing their homegames within Arlington, while within Irving, the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Stars and the Dallas Cowboys make their home.
