Forklift Attachments Moore - Moore (population 55,081) is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area and lies within Cleveland County. It is the state's 7th largest city.

The City of Moore started out as a small, quiet community just outside Oklahoma City and is now a dining, shopping and entertainment center. Only 20 minutes from downtown Oklahoma City, Moore is within an easy drive of Tinker Air Force Base and Will Rogers World Airport. The Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center is close by. The University of Oklahoma lies to the south of Moore.

On some occasions over the last dozen years, the city of Moore has been hit by damaging tornadoes. Of the three major tornadoes in 1999, 2003 and the year 2010; the 1999 tornado left a 60-km long trail of destruction and ranked as an F5 tornado on the Fujita scale. It was among the strongest tornadoes in recorded history. Thirty-six people within the Oklahoma City metropolitan area were killed in this terrible weather event.

The original name for Moore was "Verbeck." Settlers later began arriving in the land run of the year 1889, arriving by foot, on horseback, by wagon and by train. The township's name became Moore after Al Moore, who was either a conductor or a brakeman residing at the camp, painted his last name on a board and nailed it on his boxcar so that the postal delivery would surely find him. The settlement became legally known as Moore when the township incorporated during the year 1893.

An important factor in the city's growth has been its nearness to thousands of businesses, industries, and public and private schools. There are a lot of cultural and recreational facilities in the metro region. Moore has many residents who work at government offices within the state's capital city to the north. Moore, an Oklahoma "Certified City", is considered desirable place to live.
