Forklift Attachments Edmond

Forklift Attachments Edmond - Edmond, Oklahoma is located within the central portion of the state. It is part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, located in Oklahoma County. It is the 6th largest city in Oklahoma State.

Edmond City borders the city of Oklahoma along its northern border. The downtown core of Oklahoma City could be reached via Interstate 35 and US Route 77. Citylink Edmond bus service provides public transportation to Oklahoma City.

The location was selected as a coaling and water station for steam engines on the Santa Fe rail line. The Santa Fe Railroad extended into Indian Territory in the year 1887. The location was considered ideal because of its high elevation, which allowed trains to easily accelerate downhill when departing the station in either direction. The station was named after Edmond Burdick, the freight agent. When early settlers arrived, they decided to name the town Edmond. At present the BNSF freight line runs through the same course that the old Santa Fe rail used to take.

The township of Edmond resulted from the boom in homesteads staked around the Santa Fe station during the great Oklahoma land run in 1889. By 1890 the city's population was 394. A syndicate known as the Seminole Town and Development Company prepared the original planning map for the city of Edmond and named the streets after workers and other men associated with the Santa Fe Railroad and the township syndicate. The first mayor and city officers were elected in the month of May the year 1889.

Outside the U.S. Post Office in downtown Edmond stands a memorial to the victims of a tragic event in the city's history. Edmond made national news during August the year 1986 when it was the site of the post office massacre. An ex-postal employee named Patrick Sherrill killed 14 individuals and wounded 6. The crime triggered a rash of postal employee murder-suicides throughout the country.

Shannon Miller, the Olympic gymnast with 7 medals during 1992 and the year 1996 Olympic Games is from Edmond. Shannon Miller is the nation's most decorated Olympic gymnast. The Shannon Miller Parkway has been named to honor her. It is located on Interstate 35 from the Memorial Road exit to the Logan/Oklahoma County line.
