Alabama has numerous investments including economic sectors of aerospace, education, banking and healthcare, in addition to some heavy industries like automobile manufacturing, mineral extraction, steel production and fabrication.
As per the United States Bureau of Economic Analysis, the 2008 total gross state product was $170 billion, or $29,411 per capita. Alabama's 2008 GDP increased 0.7% from the past year. The single biggest increase came in the area of information. In the year 1999, per capita income for the state was $18,189.
Agriculture
Alabama's agricultural outputs consist of eggs and poultry, cattle, plant nursery items, cotton, peanuts, grains such as corn and sorghum, vegetables, milk, soybeans, and peaches. Known as the "Cotton State," Alabama ranks in the top 10 states for production of cotton. The states of Georgia, Mississippi and Texas make up the top three.

Alabama's industrial outputs include iron and steel products; wood, paper and lumber products; mining; plastic products; cars and trucks; and apparel. What's more, the state of Alabama produces aerospace and electronic products, usually within the Huntsville area, location of NASA's George C. Marshall Space Flight Center and the US Army Aviation and Missile Command, headquartered at Redstone Arsenal.
The economic growth of the state of Alabama is mostly dependent on the state's automotive manufacturing industry. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama are all situated in the state of Alabama, in addition to their various suppliers. Ever since 1993, the automobile industry has generated over 67,800 new jobs within the state. Alabama currently ranks 4th in the US in automobile output.
