The city of North Las Vegas has two major highways serving the city: CC-215 and I-15. RTC Transit serves as the transit service for the whole Las Vegas metropolitan area. North Las Vegas is situated in the Las Vegas Valley, along with the cities of Henderson and Las Vegas. The Valley has the highest concentration of people of any region in the state of Nevada, and is part of the Las Vegas-Paradise metropolitan area, that consists of all of Clark County. The metropolitan area's population is currently approximately 2 million. The Valley is defined by a 1,600 km2 basin, surrounded by the Sheep Mountains towards the north, the Muddy Mountains to the east, the Black Mountains towards the south and the Spring Mountains towards the west.
The names Las Vegas and Vegas are normally used to denote the whole area. The names can mean valley, the strip and the city. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has the right to utilize the names as a brand.
North Las Vegas has been experiencing high job loss and other economic difficulties. Future employment growth for the city of North Las Vegas is expected to be more than 20%.
