Lexington Kentucky has a fascinating and rich history. Lexington was founded within the state of Virginia, in June 1775, 17 years before Kentucky becoming a state. One of the very first white men to travel around the region was the renowned Daniel Boone. He was responsible for helping to establish the very first forts in Kentucky State. A leader of a group of frontiersmen, called William McConnell, stopped at a campground that has ever since been called McConnell Springs. It is situated on the middle fork of Elkhorn Creek. The name Lexington was selected after Lexington Massachusetts since the group was extremely inspired by the 19th of April, the year 1775 colonists' victory in the Lexington and Concord battle. At first a blockhouse was built and cabins and houses soon followed.

Other well recognized businesses consist of Trane, Amazon.com, and United Parcel Service. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky is within the Lexington CSA adjoining the city of Georgetown. The city of Lexington is a host to a JIF peanut butter plant that makes more peanut butter than any other factory in the world. A popular holding company which employs more than 2100 individuals across the state is called the Forcht Group of Kentucky.
The biggest employer in Lexington with more than 10,500 staff is the University of Kentucky. The College of Agriculture's Cooperative Extension service provides 900 staff which are not included as University of Kentucky staff. The University, operates with an annual budget of roughly $1.4 billion, and is the 9th biggest economic company within the state. Additionally, the 21st biggest company in the state belongs to the College of Medicine which is situated within the University.
The Lexington-Fayette County government as well as other hospital facilities forms some of the other significant employers in Kentucky State. The Veterans Administration Hospital, Central Baptist Hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East combined employ 6206 people. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government accounts for approximately 3,930 individuals and the Fayette County Public Schools hires approximately 4,650 people.
