Forklift Attachments Joliet - Joliet is a city in the state of Illinois, located around 64 km southwest of Chicago. The city is part of Kendall County and Will City and serves as the seat for Will County. Joliet has a population of 147,433 and is amongst the fastest growing cities within the nation. It is the 4th biggest and fastest-growing city in Illinois State. Joliet is close enough to the Chicago metropolitan area which it is now known as an exurb of Chicago City.

The city of Joliet was founded in 1673 and named after its founder, Louis Joliet, a French-Canadian explorer. The present-day city of Joliet was planned as a township in 1834 and was part of Cook County. During 1836 it became the county seat of the newly-established Will County. During the year 1852 Joliet was incorporated as a city. During the year 1858, a state penitentiary was established within Joliet. The area had plenty of building stone, that made it a perfect place for the construction of a prison. By 1869, steel had become Joliet's mainstay, following the building of the Joliet steel mill. The mill attracted a large number of workers together with other businesses. Along with other Midwestern cities that are dependent on manufacturing industries, the economy of the city declined during the 1970s and 1980s, with the unemployment rate as high as 25 percent during the early 1980s. During the 1990s, Joliet revitalized the City Center, established riverboat casinos and promoted the tourism industry.

The city of Joliet features various arts and cultural activities in addition to a plethora of outdoor recreational facilities. Located on the Des Plaines River are the riverboat casinos called the Harrah's Casino and the Empress Casino. These two casinos attract thousands of visitors every year. The Joliet Historical Museum and its Route 66 Welcome Center feature the histories of individuals who settled the Joliet region. The city of Joliet boasts amongst the globe's most beautiful theatres, The Rialto Square Theatre, referred to as the "Jewel of Joliet". The Chicagoland Speedway is a state-of-the-art facility, that hosts Indy Racing League events and NASCAR. Bicentennial Park is situated along the scenic Des Plaines River, and has an outdoor bandshell and an indoor theater.
