Richmond is geographically by the counties of Henrico and Chesterfield. The city is strategically situated on the James River. It is built at the rocky fall line on undulating hills, separating the Tidewater and Piedmont regions of Virginia. These areas provided a natural nexus for commerce development in Richmond. The downtown has always been a hub, with the intersection of 2 key interstates, the world's only triple crossing of rail lines and the Great Turning Basin for boats.
